RJC Annual Report - New Zealand

1.0 Annual Report Statement

As a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), Morris and Watson Limited (New Zealand) is committed to integrating sustainable and responsible business practices into our everyday operations.

Our commitment includes cultivating strong and ethical relationships with our suppliers and business partners and promoting responsible practices throughout our supply chain.

Our primary focus is on identifying and mitigating negative social and environmental impacts, particularly concerning human right abuses, forced labour and child labour.

2.0 Implementation of Policies and Procedures

Across all aspects of our business operations, we have developed a comprehensive suite of policies and procedures to achieve our goals and are committed to our ensuring adherence with the RJC’s Code of Practice (COP) standard.

3.0 Responsible Supply Chains

Our supply chain due diligence policies and procedures aligns with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas (OECD Guidance). In the past 12 months we have;

  • Adopted and implemented a Supply Chain Policy and Procedure;
  • Developed robust internal control systems and processes for collecting and recording information on the origin of precious metal and gemstone materials supplied to us
  • Engaged and communicated with our suppliers to determine their compliance with human rights, child and forced labour practices, workplace health and safety and legal compliance; and
  • Developed a system to identify potential risks in our supply chain, including 'red-flag' locations, materials and suppliers.

As of the writing of this report, we have had positive engagement from our suppliers, with no red-flags to report.

We are committed to continuous improvement and will work closely with our supply chain partners.

Our continuous improvement includes continuing to identify and manage our supply chain risks in alignment with our policies and the RJC Code of Practice standard.

4.0 Environmental Impact Management

Beyond our supply chain, we have also implemented measures to manage and reduce the environmental impacts of our direct operations. Our efforts include:

  • Minimisation of waste production within our operations;
  • Promote a culture of environmental sustainability within our workplace;
  • Recycling and reusing materials, wherever possible; and
  • Implementing energy and waste efficiency measures to reduce our environmental footprint.

We will continue to seek opportunities in 2024 and beyond, to enhance our environmental performance and sustainability practices though our policies, procedures and engagement with our internal and external stakeholders.
