SweepsSweeps is a trade term used to describe the lower grade waste that comes from the jewellery manufacturing process. Sweeps are usually made up of polishing dust, vacuum bags, used emery paper, dried sink trap residue and more. Unlike lemel, sweeps contain a lower density of valuable waste. Because of this it is recommended they be refined in larger quantities to get the best return. Click here to view more Precious Metal Refining Tips. Please note Morris and Watson is no longer able to process large quantities of carpet as part of sweeps refining because of the environmental impact. Refining charges typically consist of two fees, firstly the assay (analysis) fee which is a flat rate charged per refining job calculated by the number of metals being recovered. Secondly the treatment charge, this is calculated at a per kilogram rate using the sweeps received weight and the number of metals being recovered. Contact your nearest office for further information. Morris and Watson offer sweeps refining services to recover one metal (gold or silver only), two metals (gold and silver) or four metals (gold, silver, platinum and palladium). The standard processing time for sweeps refining is 15 working days from arrival at the refinery. More complex sweeps may take longer. All jobs are processed in the most efficient, accurate and trustworthy manner to ensure the best possible return. In addition to the option of buying your refined metal from you, Morris and Watson can return refined metal as proceeds (bullion, granules, fabricated metal) or a mix of these options. | |
