Calculators

Determining the amount of metal you need to create you next masterpiece can be difficult. To save time, we have created some calculators for commonly used calculations and conversions for jewellers.

The calculators below can be used to determine the metal weights of the various products Morris and Watson fabricate and supply. They can also be used to determine the weight of a piece when converting from one alloy to another.

These calculators are intended to be an informative and approximate guide only and are not used for order confirmation, as final product weights may vary.

Fabrication and Alloying

1. Convert from one carat to another carat

Use this calculator to determine how much fine gold or master alloy you need to add to a current alloy to get a desired alloy.

What carat metal do you have?
How many grams of this carat do you have?
What is the carat of the metal you want?

2. Calculate the metal weight for plate/strip of your required dimensions

Use this calculator to calculate the weight of plate/strip for your required dimensions, in a chosen Morris and Watson alloy.

Width in mm (not cm)
Length in mm (not cm)
Thickness in mm (not cm)
What is the carat of the metal you want?

3. Calculate the metal weight for round wire of your required dimensions

Use this calculator to calculate the weight in round wire for your required dimensions, in a chosen Morris and Watson metal.

Diameter in mm (not cm)
Length in mm (not cm)
What is the carat of the metal you want?

4. Calculate the length of bangle wire for your required diameter

Use this calculator to calculate the length of bangle wire for your required diameter bangle.

5. Calculate the finished length of a piece of wire/plate/strip for a required thickness

Use this calculator to calculate the finished length for a piece of wire/plate/strip for your required thickness.

Length in mm (not cm)
Thickness of piece in mm (not cm)
Required thickness of finished piece in mm (not cm)

6. Calculate the metal weight for half-round (D-shaped) wire of your required dimensions

Use this calculator to calculate the weight in round wire for your required dimensions, in a chosen Morris and Watson metal.

Large diameter in mm (not cm)
Small diameter in mm (not cm)
Length in mm (not cm)
